Nigerian Court rules that the compulsory resettlement of residents in Lagos is unconstitutional.29/6/2017 A Nigerian Court ruled last week that the compulsory eviction of tens of thousand of people in Lagos was unconstitutional. Inhabitants had in some cases been reportedly chased from their homes and inadequate steps had been taken to ensure that those affected were satisfactorily resettled. This is a demonstration of the potential power of the rule of law to hold governments to account with regards to unsatisfactory resettlement arrangements, a power that has also been demonstrated by the successful Ha Lejone claimants supported by Protimos and the Seinoli Legal Centre. Protimos congratulates all of those involved in securing last week's ruling.
