Protimos trains young lawyers in developing countries rich in natural resources, where local people’s legal rights have been usurped. They teach them how to negotiate and take cases to court, passing on their legal skills and knowledge, so that local communities can advocate for their own legal rights after Protimos has moved on.
In Maseru, the capital of Lesotho, two young lawyers trained by Protimos are helping local communities to claim compensation for the loss of their lands, which now lie beneath the Katse Dam. Chief Khetang and the Mapeleng community have had no water since 1996 and their situation is desperate. Their case goes to court imminently.
Please help Chief Khetang and the Mapeleng community to win in court and get their water.
Anything you give will help Protimos train young lawyers to take this case and others to court. But more than that – your support will mean that communities, like Mapeleng, will have the legal knowledge to protect their land in the future. And they pass that knowledge on so that future generations of marginalised people are protected too.
