Quiz night success
18 February 2009
Some of the best legal minds in London battled it out as quizmaster Clive Anderson put them through their paces to raise money for Africa.
Teams from Clifford Chance, Allen & Overy, and Freshfields; Fountain Court, 39 Essex Street, Monckton and FTB, sharpened their pencils and flexed their intellects at a dinner hosted by the Law Society on 18th February 2009. They were all there to support our work in Southern Africa, with communities in Lesotho, and the San. In total we managed to raise over £13,000.
Between courses, the teams answered questions put by Clive Anderson who generously donated his time free of charge. Rounds on history, literature, and of course law, taxed some of the sharpest minds in the country. A silent auction took place during supper, and whilst the last quiz questions were marked, Ivor Dickinson, Managing Director of Douglas & Gordon, conducted a live auction. Fountain Court emerged victorious, taking home the first prize, closely followed by Monckton.
Fiona Darroch, Director of Protimos, said: ‘Our project partners, in Maseru and the Maluti Mountains, in Stellenbosch and the Green Kalahari, are delighted by such support for the due process of the law, which our own legal community has so generously expressed.’
The success of the evening has ensured that the event becomes an annual challenge with the law firms keen to take top prize next year.
